The Early Childhood Education program prepares students for work with young children. Students learn about the physical, social, emotional and intellectual development of children while working in the Early Childhood Preschool. Students further develop their knowledge while completing field experiences in elementary schools, special education classrooms, pre-schools and day care centers. The program is a two-year, 900-hour course that allows juniors and seniors from 15 area school district the opportunity to gain first-hand experience working with young children. Students are required to complete an array of activities from reading professional texts and journals to creating a portfolio that showcases their best work. Students become certified in Infant/Child CPR and Community First Aid while attending the program. High School students interested in the program can contact Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES or their high school guidance counselor for more information.
The pre-school program is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from October to May, from 9:10 to 10:50 a.m., and from 12:30 to 2:20 p.m. Parents interested in sending a child to the program can visit the program during its opening times.
